For the second week in a row the library added some pizazz to the evening story time. This time they invited TIKTUM (a local science learning lab for children) to share some interactive science experiments.
Will was so amazed by the bubbles that came out of the test tube when the lab assistant added dry ice that he stood up. (Lauren was standing and moving around the whole time).
All of the experiences were hands on:
Making "moon sand" castles.
While Will was playing in the sand, Lauren checked out the sea star in the sensory box.
The glowing water beads were a hit too.
We had a fun night. I got some good ideas for activities to do at Will's upcoming birthday party. Like most kids their ages, Will and Lauren love getting their hands dirty. I don't provide experiences for them to do so very often, mainly because I hate cleaning up the messes, but also because I lack the initiative. An entire night with a variety of pre-planned activities that entertain and educate my children, complete with supplies that aren't usually in my household and minimal clean-up for me? Sounds like a win in my book. I felt so much better about making my annual contribution to the library (read: paying my fines) that night.
