Sunday evening Nana and the kids made some chocolate chip cookies together. Back before Nana came I asked Will what he wanted to do with Nana while she was here and "make cookies" was at the top of his list. After the kids went to bed we munched on them while we watched
The Saratov Approach.

Monday morning we took Nana to the farmstead. The kids love being tour guides and showing off all the fun stuff there is to see and do. Nana treated us to a horse-drawn hayride around the farm. It was nice to rest our legs and fun to see the farm from a different angle.

This week the library hosted a bunch of outdoor activities:
dirt and sand digging, bubbles, chalk, and worm races. Both kids had a great time. Will really liked the worms and Lauren dug in both the dirt and sand boxes for quite awhile. I ran into a friend from high school who has a daughter a few months younger than Will and it was fun catching up with her a bit.

We went swimming at a friend's community pool and Lauren insisted on wearing her towel like a cape as we walked back to our car. She had seen Will do this previously and as with most things, if Will does it, she needs to at the very least give it a try too.

Will likes to play on our piano. He doesn't actually know how to play, but he is pretty good at making up music and has progressed past the banging on the keys phase.

TJ and I went to Starlight to see
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We had a lot of fun. Both of us have happy memories of listening to the soundtrack as we drove across the country to visit family in the early 90s. I've had "Close Every Door to Me," stuck in my head ever since.

Saturday afternoon we met our friends the Divines in Lee's Summit to check out the Costa Vida restaurant that was opened sometime in the past year. We've been talking about going together for quite awhile and finally got around to it. We bought our food and took it to a nearby park to eat and play. As we were getting ready to leave the kids found some beads and rainbow loom bands on the ground. I mentioned how glad I was that my kids are past the age where I have to worry about them putting everything in their mouths. Famous last words. In the car on the way home Lauren started whining that she couldn't find her purple bead. I could see her picking her nose in the mirror. When I asked her where the bead was she pointed to her nose. I was able to get it most of the way out, but we took her to the doctor and while we were waiting to be seen she sneezed it out.

I didn't know you could do hayrides at the farmstead! Good to know :) I'm sorry, but the bead story cracks me up. I remember my little sister doing that with a game piece on a road trip. I'm sure it won't be so funny when it's my kid next ;)
Oh, no, not a bead up the nose?!! That was always one of my biggest fears with our kids. So sorry that it happened, but so glad that she got it out without having had the doctor pull it out.
Glad you survived the bead-up-nose incident. Darn, kids. :)
Ha! Kids are always proving us wrong. Glad she sneezed it out!
