We met at my parent's house after church to have dinner together. After dinner we went for a walk around Memaw and Pepaw's neighborhood. Elliott was so excited to be included in the the wagon ride. He had a big smile plastered on his face the entire time we were out. It was a much cooler night than we were used to--about 70 degrees--but still pretty humid.

Happy Independence Day! We had a great holiday. We took things easy in the morning and played games, read Harry Potter, and went for a walk. Then we went over to my parents house to hang out with family for awhile. After lunch we headed home for naps and to get ready for our cook-out. We had several families from our ward over for a potluck dinner. After dinner we went to the neighborhood I grew up in to watch fireworks. It seems like more people head there every year and we ran into a lot of friends. All in all a fun day!

We had a slow start to the day since the kids didn't get in bed until after 11pm. We said goodbye to my sisters who were all heading home that day, but not before and squeezing in one last visit to the pool with Melanie and Laura since they had evening flights. The 4th of July signifies the midpoint of summer and now that it was over I spent a lot of the day fretting about how quickly summer was passing me by. Elliott turns one is just over a month and then school starts the next day. I'm not quite ready for all these changes! I had to take some deep breaths and decide what is most import to me to spend my time doing these last few weeks of summer and I started feeling better.

A new Zoobooks magazine came in the mail, so Will and Lauren got out and looked through all their Zoobooks for awhile. I spent the day picking up from the weekend and getting ready for our house guests. In the evening Meredith and her boys arrived just in time for dinner. We were excited to see them!

It rained enough in the morning that Will and Lauren's swimming lessons were cancelled. Without their lessons we were able go to the zoo earlier while it was still a bit cooler. It rained enough to cancel lessons and keep big crowds away from the zoo, but not enough to stop us from going, or making the zoo unpleasant. Will and Lauren were excited to show the zoo off to more cousins. Will and Weston ran ahead, with Lauren going back and forth between them and the twins. The twins liked to wander around and climb when Meredith let them out of their stroller. Two is an energetic age! The kids had fun and we purposefully planned a short trip. Everyone took a nap/quiet time when we got home.

We went swimming twice on Friday. Once in the morning before lunch, then again after naptime (though I think only Elliott actually slept). The twins learned how to crawl out of their pack-n-plays at our house and struggled to rest. Anthony joined us when he got home from work and we were able to take the kids to the big pool. All the kids jumped in the water over and over again. It was a good arm workout for the adults.

We got our trees trimmed on Saturday. It was an all day affair. They raised the canopy and cleaned the deadwood out of two of our large pin oak trees. The third is right next to our house and has branches over our deck and roof. On that one they gave us some good roof clearance in addition to raising the canopy and cleaning it out. The trees look great now!

So funny that for you July 4 is the midpoint of summer -- for me, I think of July 4 as the beginning of summer! Since we get out of school toward the end of June, and don't start until after labor day. That's so interesting -- it had never occurred to me that other people might view July 4 differently. So sorry your summer is half over -- ours feels like it started a few weeks ago!
