2016 :: week 27

June 26
The kids are dying to read as much Harry Potter as possible. They often play with their duplos or other toys while Anthony reads. On Sunday night while we were reading we heard a knock on our door. When we answered it we found Andrew and Laurel Manwaring with some pulla (Finnish sweet bread).

Anthony has been in town all week and one of the many benefits of having him around is that I can go for walks at night after we put the kids in bed. I love this time of year, when the sun doesn't set until almost 9pm and I can take a walk around the neighborhood by myself.

Sometimes I feel like I'm pushing around a circus act when I take all three kids to Target with me. I love summer and getting to spend extra time with the kids, but it is a lot easier to run errands during the school year.

Melanie and Leah (the first of 9 family members to come to KC for Independence Day weekend) arrived Tuesday afternoon and joined us for a zoo trip Wednesday after swimming lessons. It started to rain right as we pulled up, but it stopped raining and we were able to have a really good time. Leah wanted to wander more than we were comfortable with. We started going to the zoo when Will and Lauren were 3.5 and 5.5, and Elliott is still stroller-bound, so I haven't spent much time at the zoo with toddlers. Will loved being tour guide and was disappointed we didn't get to see every last animal.

We started swimming lessons this week. The kids have lessons for half and hour each day, starting at 9am. There are a few fellow-kindergartners taking lessons at the same time and I've enjoyed visiting with their mothers while the kids swim. The timing is perfect, we are able to get home in time for Elliott to take his morning nap. Will is in Wave 2 and Lauren is in Preschool 2.

 The Crane cousins went swimming Friday afternoon. Cute kids!

We tried our hand at an Escape Room Saturday night. We were sooooo close...but didn't quite make it. Even though we came up short, I still had a great time. We worked well together and each were able to figure something out to contribute.

never heard of "Escape room". What is it? Sounds like fun, anyway.

I hear ya about running errands with all the kids. Not many people have large families in NY so you should see the looks I get when I'm out with all 3 plus my giant belly. Will be glad to move to a slightly less judgmental state next year!
