It begins...
This hospital/obgyn does the induction process differently than our team in Springfield. This time they did a cervadil treatment the night before. I will spare you the details, which is not how I normally roll. At least for now...
We were supposed to check into the hospital around 8. The hospital called during the evening to let us know that they were too full and that they would not have a bed open until at least 10. We followed directions and called back at 9:30, and we were delayed again until 10:30. So that is when we checked into the hospital. We left Will in the care of Memaw and Pepaw Crane- Pepaw pulling the night shift at our house with Memaw manning the day shift.
The cervadil application was pretty uncomfotable, but was done by around 11:30. They monitored our little girl for awhile, and she is doing well. Carrie was supposed to feel cramping all night, but she really did not. But neither of us slept particularly well, though she was able to sleep a bit with some Ambien.
Our doctor and nurse came into visit us around 8 this morning. They took our the cervadil, and checked Carrie, who is now dilated to a "2". Our doctor broke Carrie's water and hooked her up to the Petocin pump. So the induction is in full gear now.
Carrie is a little doscouraged as she feesl like things are not progressing as fast as with Will, but it is hard to remember exactly. Maybe I will have to look back at my blog from then and see if I can glean some sort of approximate timeline. Since Carrie's water broke she says that her back hurts significantly more and she is of course leaking fluids. But not much is happening.
Luckily this hospital has LMN- the Lifetime Movie Network. We are watching what BOTH of us consider to be a dumb movie about a girl who puts on a fat suit to high school to see if people treat her differently. According to this movie, everyone is a jerk. It keeps making us laugh.
We will keep ya posted every once in awhile today. Talk to you later.

Our first house guests--Part 2

We were also treated to a nice dance routine by our acroos-the-street neighbor. I actually caught him dancing in the yard again this week wearing football pads. Pepaw and Laura came over and had some taco soup with us. Carly added some BBQ sauce and it was delicious.
Monday was Labor Day, also known as the day of picnics. Our ward had a picnic at lunchtime and our neighborhood had a picnic for dinner. Both were fun, but I didn't take a single picture. On the way home from the neighborhood picnic we stopped at the park and Will did a little bit better sharing the swing this time. It helped that Sadie wasn't quite as interested in swinging. We thought about playing games that night, but instead got late night snacks and tried to think of all the random songs that were popular when we were in high school (this could have happened a different night though, my memory is getting hazy).
Sadie did a great job feeding the baby goats. Will was excited until we got up close and personal with the goats, then he decided he'd rather watch.
That night Laura watched Will & Sadie for us and the adults plus Elise hit the town. We went to downtown KC and ate dinner at Gordon Biersch. We had a great time! Anthony and I keep talking about how fun it was to go out with another couple and how much we miss living close to all of our siblings.
Wednesday was kind of sad because it was time to pack up and say goodbye. I'm sure Carly & Daniel were ready to get home to their own bed and to not have to share a room with Elise anymore. We got some Oklahoma Joe's for lunch before they left since we didn't want them to leave KC without at least trying some authentic Kansas City BBQ. Anthony took the travelers to the airport and I put Will down for a nap. When Will woke up he kept looking around for "DeDe" and insisted on eating dinner in the chair she had sat in for meals while she was here. He did the same thing when he woke up on Thursday.

Our first house guests--part 1
The travelers arrived late Wednesday evening. After getting the kids in bed the adults stayed up and chatted for a bit. As such, we all slept in a bit the next morning. The weather Thursday was hot and gross, but Carly and I braved it to take Will and Sadie to the park by our house. Unfortunately they only have one "baby" swing and Will got his first taste of having to take turns. Turns out he doesn't really like sharing and taking turns. That would be a theme of the week for him.
That evening we headed out to Fritz's for dinner. The general consensus was the food is OK, but the atmosphere is great for toddlers. If you are ever comparing your restaurant food to the food that was served in your public school's cafeteria, OK is the best it can be. It was however, the first time we have taken Will to a restaurant in months where I didn't regret bringing him, which makes the food quality acceptable. There was a train that was constantly going around the restaurant that kept Will & Sadie's interest almost the entire time we were there. They also deliver your meal via train, so if your kid likes trains, check out Fritz's.
On the way out of the restaurant we thought it would be fun to let Will and Sadie sit in the miniature "choo-choo." They were okay with it at first. I noticed that you could put in $0.50 and the train would move, so we put in some quarters and let the kids rock out.

It was still hot and muggy Friday. Since our local pools closed early this year we busted out the kiddie pool.
After "pool time" we caught the kids playing together with the bucket of cars and racetrack. Like I mentioned before, Will doesn't really like sharing his toys (he's fine with sharing other's toys though), so unfortunately, moments like this were rare.
That night we decided to go to a Royals' Game and take advantage of Buck Night. Even though it was hot, our seats were up high enough that it was nice and breezy.
On Saturday Anthony and I wanted to check out some yard sales to look for a lawnmower. Will and Sadie came along and we had a fun time.
We didn't find a good lawnmower, but while we were driving we heard an ad that a local grocery store was having a "Grand Re-Opening" and they were offering free stuff to all who stopped by. We were literally 2 blocks away when we heard the ad so we stopped in and got some sweet donuts, balloons, and other samples.
That afternoon we watched the BYU-Ole Miss game with our friends the Diggins. We had a fun time, and it looks like the size 12-month football jersey I forced Will to wear (because we didn't have anything BYU in his current size) might have been a good-luck charm.
Stay tuned for part 2.

growing
It's freaking me out a bit because as soon as we found out I was pregnant, I did the math and figured out Will would be 22 months old when the baby is born (assuming my pregnancy is "normal" and baby is born on or after her due date). We are now approximately a month away. Eeks!
I've also been caught of guard several times lately at how much of a little "boy" Will is becoming. Sometimes I will look over at him sitting on the couch or at the table and he just looks so grown up. His mannerisms are more mature and I really enjoy the "conversations" we are able to have now. He is capable of doing so many things, if only we can get him to cooperate once the baby is born...

Which brings me to another point, he is very opinionated and very expressive. It drives me nuts because he is so much more aggressive with me than he is with TJ. Maybe it's because I am scared of him making any contact with my stomach when he throws a fit, so he knows I'm soft. I'm not sure, but he definitely has figured out my weaknesses.
On a more positive note, Will loves to learn. He recognizes most letters, several colors and about half of the digits between 0-9. He is getting a lot better at saying them too. He used to avoid all words that start with L, R, H, S, or Y and most vowels.
Will loves...
...Caillou
...swinging
...cottage cheese
...going on walks
...singing Wheels on the Bus
...dipping food
...his grandparents (he talks about Memaw, Pepaw, Papa, and Nana all the time and frequently calls out for them when I am making him do something he doesn't want to do)
...helping (seriously, I can't touch the dishwasher, mop/broom, or laundry when he is awake without having to do battle with him)
Will dislikes...
...long sleeves (or any clothes he considers too "ight")
...the word "no"
...leaving the park (he has been known to get violent on occasion)
...hugging
...sharing his toys (he is fine with other kids sharing their toys with him though)
...new people (at first, once he realizes we aren't going to leave him he warms up)
He's a pretty funny little guy. I think we'll keep him.
Here I am in all my 35-week glory. Weeks 29-34 went by pretty quickly due to the move, our trip to Boston, the Nielson's visit and our trip to Utah. I'm hoping weeks 35-40 will go by as quickly (a girl can dream) and I am able to accomplish as much (not likely).
I haven't done a very good job of documenting this pregnancy. Overall I feel about the same, but there are some differences. With Will I had a lot of pain in my pelvic joints and right knee due to the increased amount of the hormone relaxin in my system. This time there are just general aches and pains, with more pain in my hips than I remember with Will. This chica moves around quite a bit more than Will.
I'm finding myself getting tired more often than last time too. Not terribly surprising since I have a toddler to attend to this time around. I am having a harder time dealing with the heat, but it was late November when I was this far along with Will, and the weather has just recently gotten cooler. In the past few days I have gone places where the heat has actually been turned on. I almost passed out I was so hot. I love my little space heater, but am really looking forward to the day when I don't carry her around inside of me.
Our trip to Utah was harder on my body than I thought it would be. On the flight home I told Anthony that if I go into labor early (or even on my own!) that I will attribute it to the trip, but now that we've been home a few days and I'm feeling like my "normal" pregnant self I feel like that may have been a little over dramatic. I guess to sum it all up I will say things are coming along just fine, I can handle about 5 more weeks of this, but I reserve the right to change my mind about anything I have just written at any time if I feel so inclined. :)

Child Labor
Will is in that in-between stage where he really, really, really wants to help, but doesn't quite have the ability do much without receiving help himself. The other night while Anthony was mowing the lawn we sat on the patio and watched. Don't judge me, I'm getting big.
Will kept yelling "Yay Daddy! Yay Peepa!" every time the mower got near us. We borrowed the mower from my dad (Will calls him Peepa) and apparently he felt the need to give credit where it was due. After TJ finished mowing and had moved on to other outdoor chores Will found a broom and started to sweep our deck.
He actually did a pretty good job.
He's got nice form too. Not bad for a 20 month old. Let's hope his enthusiasm remains when this actually is one of his chores.

A travelogue of our trip to the Boston
We flew into Boston Wednesday afternoon. Will was a champ on the flight. Anthony and I took turns following him as he wandered around the airport while we waited to board our flight and it paid off as he slept 2/3 of the way.
Doug and Tina picked us up and when we arrived at the John house we were greeted with a delicious meal of baked ziti, corn and strawberry shortcake prepared by Hillary and Ben. Will was extra shy at first, but by the end of our first night there he warmed up a bit and let Hillary and Nana read him some stories.
On Thursday Meredith arrived. Soon after she got to Belmont we put Will in the stroller and walked to Star Market in Cambridge. We were quite the entourage--there were 7 of us--but it was fun to get out and get some exercise. We picked up a few things, including water, and then walked home by way of Grove Street Park to let Will play. He loves to swing and it was nice having his Nana, aunts and an uncle to humor him as he wanted to switch to a new swing approximately every minute.
That afternoon we drove to IKEA. Anthony stayed behind so Will could nap and he worked on a presentation for work. After eating lunch, Meredith, Tina and I spent some time looking at stuff for our kid's rooms, as well as looking for various storage boxes. When we got home we dined al fresco on a some delicious BBQ chicken prepared by Doug. Will didn't much care for sitting at the table so the two of us explored the backyard. He is always wanting to "go, go, GO!"
We started off Friday by taking a walk to Burbank (Anthony's elementary school), with Meredith. Will enjoyed the swings and the three adults lamented the lack of shade at most playgrounds. When we got home we were ate with a delicious breakfast prepared by Ben and Hillary. After cleaning up the girls headed over to a secondhand children's store. We found some treasures--including a chunky car puzzle for Will and some baby gear for Meredith's boy. That afternoon we headed to the Full Moon Cafe for a late lunch. They have a cool play area for kids, which is great for Will. After lunch we headed home and hung out while our food digested. We were all so full from lunch we didn't do much for dinner. Meredith, Tina and I ran to Target to get diapers for Will and look at baby stuff. We talked a lot about babies being that there will be three new John babies by the end of the year (Carly had Elise in May, I'm due in October and Meredith is due in December). When we got back we played some rousing games of nertz. Anthony and I were partners the first game and we won, clearly not everyone was warmed up yet. After that we changed the teams up and neither of were victorious again. Matt and Hillary are an unstoppable force when it comes to team nertz.
Saturday we woke up and got ready to head to New Hampshire. We figured since we didn't have a holiday or wedding to focus on this trip, we could check out Meredith and Steven's current stomping grounds. Doug made us some delicious french toast and we hit the road. The drive wasn't bad, although towards the end Will started to get a bit restless. When we got to West Lebanon we had lunch at the Maxfield's and then put Will down for a nap. While he slept the adults chatted. Steven had worked an overnight shift at the hospital the night before, so he probably should have been sleeping. We felt honored he gave up even more of his precious time to hang out with us. After Will woke up we went canoeing on the Connecticut River. We rowed for a bit and then got out to enjoy the water.
Will wasn't a huge fan of his life vest, so he was especially anxious to get in the water. We were surprised that he had no problems getting in the water, but he was perfectly content to follow his Uncle Steven around.
The water was so peaceful, and the setting so pretty, I left feeling very relaxed.
Then again, I didn't row once. Thanks, TJ, for picking up my slack. After our canoeing excursion we went back to the Maxfield's and grilled some burgers. They live in a really cool old farmhouse built in the late 1880s. Their living areas are really open with lots of windows. They have a large storage area adjacent to their apartment which is actually an old barn. There are also some cool old trees in their yard that Will enjoyed. We meant to get a picture outside their house but forgot. After dinner we went to an ice cream place called Ice Cream Fore You. I think they are associated with some sort of mini-golf. The best part (besides their generous servings) was the playground located right behind. Will wasn't interested in even a bit of ice cream. He was too busy swinging and climbing and going down the slides with his uncle. When we got home we turned on some music and let Will dance before he crashed and went to bed.
It was nice to sleep in and have a leisurely Sunday morning chatting, packing and getting ready for church. Will fell asleep on the way and slept through the first fifteen minutes of church laying across Meredith and Steven's laps. Anthony ran into some friends from his BYU days, proving once again that the world is very small.
Meredith and I took a belly photo so we can prove to our kids they were friends before they were born. I am 31 weeks and Meredith is 24 weeks.
On the way home we got caught in a rainstorm and didn't make very good time. We did make it back in time for the event of the evening, Matt's Court of Honor. I didn't see much because Will was not interested in being quiet. Will really loves his Uncle Matt. He liked to follow him around and then poke his face. Matt was the only adult patient enough to let Will do that more than once.
Will had definitely just poked Matt in the eye right before I took this photo.
On Monday Doug once again made French Toast. Then Doug, Tina, Anthony, Will and I headed into Boston to explore the Public Gardens. We wanted to do something "Boston-y" where we could all (including Will) enjoy ourselves. I think we made a good choice. First, we rode the swan boats.
Will preferred to call them ducks, though. He did pretty well, but didn't like being told no when he tried to touch the water.
We are happy to be home, but are missing our New England family. Thank you Doug and Tina for a great trip! You know it was a good when you wish it could have been just a little bit longer. Will still mentions Papa, Nana and Matt at least once a day, and although he won't say anyone else's name, he enjoys pointing everyone else out in photos.

gone but not forgotten
We just got back from spending a week visiting the John family in Boston and New Hampshire. We had a fun and relaxing time. The weather was great (for August) and it was really nice to spend time together without a strict schedule. We were welcomed back to reality today when I picked up our mail and found a summons for jury duty addressed to TJ and a notice from a collections agency for me--in regards to a bill I can prove I paid months ago. Also, we haven't mowed our grass since we moved in and both of our next-door neighbors definitely did while we were gone. I guess life isn't always a vacation, but it sure is nice to take one from time to time.
Oh, and here is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.
A little preview until I can post about the people we saw and the things we did.
